Samsung shows off new AMOLED 12M camera phone with advanced optical zoom

While we still haven’t got over the launch of the camera-centric Samsung Pixon12, the company launches the new Samsung AMOLED 12M aka SCH-W880 camera phone in Korea. The handset is claimed to be the first 12MP camera phone with an optical zoom.

Boasting of an optical zoom of up to 3 times, this 12MP stunner is wrapped with the latest in camera technology. It supposedly also sports the world’s most advanced 3.3” WVGA AMOLED full touch screen at 800 x 480 pixels. It is further known to be bundled with an array of enhanced functions that should allow users to effortlessly snap, browse and share their images even while on the move.

Incorporated with fast image saving for next shot, users can move to the next shot within around 2 seconds. At 30fps, the handset also offers high quality video recording in 1280 x 720 resolution. Claiming to deliver an enhanced photo quality, the phone additionally adopts innovative camera features like Touch Auto-Focus (AF) tracking and Smart Auto feature. Equipped with an advanced lens and Xenon flash, users can now effortlessly display their photos to loved ones

Operating on the WCDMA (2100)/ GSM(900) / DCS(1800 ) / PCS(1900) networks, the phone supports MP3, AAC, AAC+, AAC+e, WMA audio files and .MPEG4, H.263, H.264, DivX, XviD video formats. Equipped with the Terrestrial DMB (Mobile TV), the phone is also enabled for Bluetooth 2.0, USB 2.0 HS (micro USB) connectivity. Boasting of 4GB internal memory, users can also choose to expand its external memory up to 32GB via Micro SD. The handset is around 115.8 x 56.9 x 16.3mm in dimensions.

The phone is going to be sold in the Korean market from early October, 2009. As of now there is no word on its price.
